Hit the Decks DJ Booth, 2003
plywood, dimensional lumber, various hardware

The Hit the Decks program is designed to serve as a creative outlet for underprivileged
teenagers in the city by teaching the participants the art of dj'ing.

DJ equipment is installed at selected youth homeless shelters and after-school program
facilities where weekly mentor and instructional sessions are conducted by local established djs.

I was asked to design the booth which will be reproduced for every location, and constructed the first
one shown below at the highly successful benefit at Metro/ Smartbar in Chicago in October 2003.

The booth holds two turntables, a mixer, two self-powered speakers, many records and has
extra storage for kids' schoolbags, curriculum packets, additional program materials, etc. It
is also fully securable for times when the mentoring sessions are not taking place.
